DTF stands for Direct-to-Film. Instead of printing straight onto a garment, we print your design onto a special clear film using a DTF printer and specialised inks. The film is then covered with a fine adhesive powder, cured under heat, and finally heat-pressed onto the t-shirt, hoodie or garment—transferring the full-colour design permanently onto the fabric.
The result is a soft, flexible, full-colour print that holds fine detail and gradients well, and works on almost any fabric type or colour—including dark garments, without needing a separate white base layer print step like some other methods.

DTF Printing FAQ
What does DTF stand for?
DTF stands for Direct-to-Film. The design is printed onto a special film, coated with adhesive powder, cured, then heat-pressed onto the garment.
Is DTF printing durable?
Yes—DTF prints are soft, flexible and resistant to cracking or peeling, and hold up well through normal washing when cared for correctly (wash inside-out in cold water, avoid direct high heat on the print).
How is DTF different from screen printing?
Screen printing uses a separate screen per colour, which makes it most cost-effective for bulk orders of the same design. DTF has no per-colour setup cost, so it suits full-colour, detailed designs and smaller orders just as well as larger ones.
Can DTF be used on dark-coloured garments?
Yes—DTF transfers work well on dark and light fabrics alike, including black and navy garments, without needing a separate white underbase print step.
What fabrics work with DTF printing?
DTF works across cotton, polyester and blended fabrics, which is part of why we use it for both t-shirts and hoodies.
Is DTF a good choice for a single custom t-shirt?
Yes—since there’s no minimum order and no per-colour setup, DTF is one of the best options for printing just one or two items with a detailed or full-colour design.
